Lakeview Berry Farm
Plan your Visit

Here are some guidelines we suggest so you can make the most of your visit to our farm.

WHAT TO BRING
-We encourage you to bring your own containers to pick in (there is a discount when you use your own containers). We do have pails available to purchase.

-Appropriate clothes and shoes, especially when picking raspberries.  We do trellis (tie-up) our raspberries but the best berries are inside the bushes.

-When picking our Black Raspberries we recommend a hat, long sleeves, long pants and shoes (no sandals).  Black Raspberries have large, sharp thorns.

-Sunscreen and hats.

-Bug spray if picking in the early morning.

-You are welcome to bring a picnic basket and take advantage of our beautiful lake view on one of the picnic tables.  We do have bottled water available for purchase.

-Caution - Picking our big, juicy berries can leave your hands stained red so please bring along baby wipes to clean up.

PICKING TIPS

If you are a berry picking pro have fun filling your pails.

If you a first time picker or it’s been awhile, just let us know and we will take you out to the patch and show you how to pick like a pro.

BERRY HANDLING TIPS

-Berries are fragile and can bruise easily, so handle them gently.

-Once picked, keep your berries out of direct sunlight and heat.  The trunk of your car is not a good place to store your berries for any longer than it takes you to get them home.

-Heat and humidity are not good for picked berries!

-Once home use or freeze raspberries the same day.  They are very perishable

-Use or freeze strawberries within 24 hours.

-Do not wash your berries until you are ready to use them.

FREEZING STRAWBERRIES

-Wash and cut off the stem and then freeze them whole, or in whatever shape you want.

-You can freeze them with or without sugar.

-Freeze in an airtight container.

FREEZING RASPBERRIES

-We do not recommend washing raspberries before freezing.  If you do, allow them to dry before putting them in an airtight container.

-You can freeze them with or without sugar.

-The best way to freeze raspberries is to lay them in an individual layer on a cookie sheet and place in freezer.  Once frozen gently transfer them to an airtight container.  This allows you to easily remove small amounts of berries at a time.
